Webinar: High-Resolution Structure Determination of Small Proteins by Cryo-EM Using a Glacios Microscope

Join NIS Senior Scientist, Dr. Claudio Catalano, for two case studies demonstrating that routine cryo-EM structure determination is possible on smaller proteins without the use of scaffolding or other means to increase the mass of the target. A live Q&A session will follow.

Cryo-EM structure determination of molecules smaller than 100 kDa has historically been challenging. NIS scientists have recently resolved the structures of HiTehA, a ~100 kDa alpha-helical membrane protein, and HSA, a ~60 kDa soluble protein.

In this webinar, you’ll hear about:

  • Obstacles in cryo-EM structure determination of small proteins, such as lower signal-to-noise ratios and complicated particle picking.
  • Strategies for overcoming these obstacles, including use of higher magnification during collection and targeting areas of thin ice during data collection

Two case studies detailing the entire structure determination process, from grid preparation to data analysis.
