The Senior Linux SystemAdministrator is responsible for evaluating, building, securing, and managing information technology infrastructure according to the company’s established goals and objectives.  The Senior LinuxSystem Administrator will support numerous complex internal facing systems across multiple sites.  They will continually analyze the technological requirements of the company’s business and scientific systems and collaboratively contribute to maintain and improve systems while also ensuring efficient and effective technical support service.

Operations

  • Helps lead the development and implementation of required IT systems to facilitate high productivity in each area of the business
  • Develops and implements business continuity protocols to minimize disruption to business operations in the event of emergency situations or data loss
  • Establishes efficiency and efficacy standards, providing recommendations for improvement of IT infrastructure
  • Analyzes IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, functionality and efficiency, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, configuration changes and other metrics as needed
  • Facilitates audits and investigations of IT systems and procedures
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external IT vendors and service providers for efficient and cost-effective equipment, software, and contract purchases
  • Conducts root cause analysis to determine the origin of issues, unexpected outcomes, or unusual results
  • Participates in cross-functional teams, committees, or additional projects or research as needed
  • Provides after-hours support for IT emergencies as well as occasional maintenance on weekends or holidays
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

  • Meets with the Senior Director of IT/Tech Development and other leaders on a regular schedule to discuss issues, concerns, planning, and objectives
  • Participates on committees and/or task forces as assigned
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science/related technical fields or comparable experience
  • 8+ years designing, implementing, maintaining, and documenting Linux systems, hardware, software, and network computing systems some text
    • Experience with RedHat, CentOS and Ubuntu based systems required
  • Experience in the automation of internal IT processes
  • Fluency in SHELL, BASH, and Python scripting a plus
  • Experience with NFS share configuration and best practices
  • Familiarity with networking, firewall configuration
  • Comfortable with complex databases supporting internal applications
  • Strong ability to document processes
  • Familiarity with the Linux boot process, from BIOS to bootloader to kernel to user-space services
  • Broad, high-level knowledge and understanding of current computing technologies and their practical applications in a scientific testing environment
  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated ability to structure and interpret data to drive decision-making
  • Fluency in PHP and SQL would be considered a plus
  • Willingness to learn quickly and adapt to changes
  • Self-motivated and able to excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Successful implementation of cyber security programs, frameworks, architectures, and operations would be considered a plus
  • Success in establishing Identity Management architectures, technologies, and operations would be considered a plus
  • Experience with FDA audits and cGMP operations would be considered a plus
  • Experience with Dev Ops a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail, and verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Must be located in the San Diego Area, or willing to relocate

Job Title and Overview:  Senior Linux System Administrator

Reports to:  Senior Director Tech Dev/IT

Salary Range: $140,000 - $180,000 a year
